ServING

There are multiple ways to serve but the three most common serves are the underhand, overhand, and jump. Most beginners will stick with the underhand and overhand serves.

To Underhand Serve:

  1. Place the ball in the less dominant hand.
  2. Make a fist with the dominant hand.
  3. With your fist, push the ball out of your hand and over the net into the opponent's court.

To Overhand Serve:

  1. Pull your dominant arm back at a 90 degree angle and stretch out your non dominant hand in a horizontal line with the ball in your hand.
  2. Toss the ball straight up, slightly in front of you with the less dominant hand.
  3. Take a two/three step approach and use your palm of your dominant hand to hit the ball over the net while it’s in the air.

To Jump Serve:

  1. Pull your dominant arm back at a 90 degree angle and stretch out your non dominant hand in a horizontal line with the ball in your hand.
  2. Toss the ball up higher than the overhand serve and further in front of you.
  3. Take a two/three step approach and then jump up high and have the palm of your dominant hand meet the ball while you are in the air, to hit it over the net.
